Khrushchev's Letter to Kennedy on the 26th of October
On the 26th of October, during the evening, the US receives a long, remarkable, deeply emotional letter from Khrushchev to Kennedy. He basically says, if you promise not to invade Cuba in the future, we'll remove our missiles. From that point onwards, there was a deal that Kennedy can respond to. William Taubman is Professor Emeritus of Political Science and author of Pulitzer Prize winning biography of Khrushchev.
