Thomas Cromwell was the architect of Henry's break with Rome. He wanted to end his marriage and marry Anne Boleyn as a curing heir. This spark was Henry's need for an annulment. And I don't think we'd have had the Reformation in the same way or certainly not at the same speed without it.
