What Happened in 1662?
In 1662, Charles II accepted a proposal from a French engineer to introduce horse and human powered machines into the mint. The capstone driven coin striking machine could do a much stronger chart. And again, most importantly was this edging machine that was so secret that every ward and every officer, senior officer of the mint had to take an oath or sworn to secrecy not to say how it worked. When you actually got back to making coins that met the legal standard for the weight of silver and a coin at this time, you had a problem of overvaluation.
