The Importance of a Monastic Institution
The importance of a monastic institution and the venerability of it is at one of the key motivations. A pleasing or incorporating powerful benefactors and founders, aristocratic families, dynasties, royal houses are also motivatiens. Another motivation that we find stressed quite frequently in scholarship are overcoming moments of crisis. For example, if their er, their possessions or their lands are being challenged by a local secular prince or a bishop, and things like that. And this has to do with questions of identity that are that are rooted much more deeply than just as a prim pragmatic tool resolving a particular conflict - you now snatches to a hammer to crack a nut.
