History doesn't entirely belong to the experts, says author. Out of reformation emerged forms of religious pluralism which did not immediately lead to secularization or marginalization of religious faith. In a very parochial example in britain, Catholics who were doing something illegal could be persecuted for it and face various forms of legal unsocial persecution. The way christian traditions have learned to live alongside each other suggests how inter faith relations may develop in coming decades.
