The british and germans came together for one of the most memorable religious services of the first world war. Lieutenant arthur pellam byrne described in a letter home, burying the dead was too awful to describe so i won't attempt it. We then had a most wonderful joint burial service. Our padri arranged the prayers and psalms, et cetera, and interpreter wrought them ov german. It was an extraordinary and most wonderful sight.
