The Abbey Pavement and the Coronation
The Abbey pavement makes reference to Rome, the papacy and the anointing of emperors. The coronation is played out on and in front of the great pavement. It was brought all the way from Italy, from Rome, or all the materials to construct it by a family called the Cosmaty. Beyond the pavement is the high altar, and then beyond the high altar is the shrine of the confessor which was also a work of theCosmaty.
