The Night of Grendel
Beowulf and his party set out in the night to find Grendel's mother. As they approached a lake, Beowulf heard men draw their swords. They saw something move on the surface of the water. In ripples and waves, they could see serpents writhing just below the surface. The warriors were so all-struck with the water dragon that they didn't notice Beowulf see the gap in the scales. Pull out his bow, mentally calculate a shot, and then fire an arrow into the water. Then he walked up to the cliff, turned around to everyone, smiled, and dropped off backwards.
