The History of Common Land
Horse racing is also part of the life of common land. It's not an economic use like the agrarian uses we were talking about a few minutes ago, but it is an important economic use. People who are dissenting in some way from the authorities use commons as places to gather. From the 17th century, it's often the Quakers and the Covenanters in Scotland,. who can be seen as religious outsiders who use common land for their gatherings.
