The Importance of Stability in Succession
Rome was originally ruled by kings and the kings got thrown out. The word king remains a dirty one for the Romans. And so therefore, the question of how an emperor is to be succeeded is always a live one. Flavians then established their own dynasty. Vespasian has two sons, Titus and Domitian, both of whom rule in succession. You have what posterity remembers as the rule of the five good emperors.
