The rise of the european enlightenment led to witchcraft being taken more seriously. The romantic movement also played a part in changing how we think about witches. A third factor was the second wave of feminism, which owned the figure of the witch and used them as an archetype for women's experiences. And our three examples today seem much less common than they once were. Is there any reason why this should be so?
