Anti-Popery - The Last Prejudice
Anti popery is such a powerful cultural force. It's seen as a sort of step towards the apocalypse. And it becomes very much part of this protestant national sensibility. The legacy goes on way beyond that to ain. If you look at the act of settlement, it's got some incredible anti papal weeds in it. I'm not catholic, but i think some catholics would argue that it's still the last prejudice. You know, you can still bash the catholics in a way that you can't with other faiths. But if we understand our history, we have to get to grips with this on a religious level, but on a political level too.
