Women are not underlined or respected at the same level as men in most guilds. There's this phenomenon which we call coveture where women's names are just kind of lost when they marry. And so it can be a real hindrance to learning more about medieval women. I've got records of women who are doing incredibly complex work in the Holy Roman Empire. They speak a couple of languages and you can see that they're changing money across lands, but I don't know what their names are. So how close can we really get to accessing women's lives and understanding them?
