To say there is some kind of mystical objective thing going on in art is problematic. Ben Yameen brings that up. He says works of art started off having ritual value and then they gained exhibition value. A work of art has these two types of values, which he being a materialist sees as purely illusory to begin with. In Marxism, use value is more or less objective. Whereas exchange value is just what capitalism determines to be its worth.
