How the Past Can Sabotage Current Relationships
Our first intimate relationship in the sense of human warmth and closeness was with our parents. So when we meet a new adult, it would be very natural to transfer onto the new adult some of the feelings, disappointments, expectations, desires, and fears that were associated with our original caregivers. In my book I show or attempt to show that this happens in most relationships rather than as limited to therapy. This is going on subconsciously correct but eventually you could learn how to separate the parent needs from the adult needs.
