Imeli cawthorn's new book follows the fortunes of one extended family over five generations in France. She hopes to tell a big narrative story by means of telling about a hundred small stories, she says. One of the themes throughout the book is the relationship to enslaved people and to the system of slavery. And at the end, they aren't obscure at allor some of them aren't scure at all, derfuly.
