The Value-Free Ideal and Its Downfall

The value-free ideal is the idea that what scientists say is true should be determined solely by the facts. And there's been a big debate probably over the last 30 years or a big shift in philosophy of science, where people have pushed back on this notion. So one question is, is that the ideal we want, even if we couldn't achieve it? Is there such a view that's possible, kind of a view from nowhere? And then another question is sort of practically, is it just ever possible to get rid of values in science?
