The End of the Grateful Dead

Pig Penn's death was, in many ways, the end of the Grateful Dead as they had been to that point. The group decided to set up their own record label, Grateful Dead Records. As it turned out, their own mistakes would be just as bad as any that Warner's had made and Grateful Dead Records would shut down in 1976. It would later be revived in the 90s as an archive label but it did mean that the band were in total control of their next few studio albums with no oversight. In truth, the group's studio albums were increasingly becoming afterthoughts.
