Aaron Carroll: I'm not an expert in science fiction, but I've been trying to read a lot of the kind of post-carcity literature. And I want to ask you about two possible analogies to what we're seeing in your work. One would be thinking about the trajectory of the Strugatsky brothers. They start off writing a book like noon, 22nd century. But then they write books like roadside picnic where that beautiful future is now this zone full of brilliant technologies and no one can understand how it could go wrong.
