Suella Braverman said she may consider granting the right to criminal suspects to remain anonymous. Her comments came in answer to a question about Sir Cliff Richard and Harvey Proctor who were falsely accused of sexual abuse but never charged. Currently alleged victims of sexual offences receive lifelong anonymity under UK law, but there is no law against naming a suspect. Lady Levinia Noss was cleared of 17 counts of historical child sex abuse involving a boy under the age of 12 in 2021. Mark Williams, Thomas, an investigative journalist and former detective exposed Jimmy Savile as a paedophile.
