The Pirates Are Not Just the Atlantic
In August 1695, Captain Kidd was invited to meet the First Earl of Belomont. The aristocrat told him that pirates had increased their presence on the Atlantic coastline. He suggested hiring a privateer with the experience of a pirate who could then be commissioned to catch other pirates. For an ambitious sea captain like Kidd, this pirate round sounded too good to pass up.
