The Value of Whitewashed Walls

The fashion in the 12th and 13th century certainly was to trace or paint red lines on the whitewashed walls. So it looked like blocks of cut ashlar, you know, finally finished out. Beyond that you could decorate your blocks with little fleur de lis or dragons or whatever. We've mentioned sort of wall hangings, embroideries, tapestries, they could be hung on top. But I think that one of the other things says it's primary colours, primary colours, colour itself is very highly prized.
