The Harts Mountains in Germany

Germany's spruce forest are dying, from drought and the damage done by the bark beetle. Spruce is the country's most popular tree, but it's not truly native to Germany. In recent years, particularly since 2018, summers in Germany have been hot and dry. The government survey found that while four out of five are suffering to some degree, more than a third are in very bad condition or have died. But opinion is divided about the best way forward.
