Making the ace really in two situations, one to preserve your flexibility. The other thing is, if you had to hit on the ace, and now you've got a blot there, that's a whole different story. You do not want that blot later on getting hit and costing you 24 pips in the race. So it has some value, and if making the 1 point preserves your flexibility around the rest of the board, it could well be right. And hey, it's a point. Your board's always going to be a little more threatening to your opponent if you hit him. Having a strong board is important. Not getting hits important. They're all important.
