The Undoing Effect

There's a counteracting, a counterbalancing effect that might not be the way you would describe it. I did this early work with my post-doc mentor, Robert Levinson and he had the insight, well may did positive emotions don't do so much to the cardiovascular system or, but perhaps they can undo aspects of that. So they serve as reset buttons or erasers in a way. And we found was that people who turned their attention to something positive whether it was more amusing or calming showed the fastest cardiovascular recovery from that earlier stress.
