The Law of Returning to the Promised Land
I think the reason that you have this sort of jump forward is that this wandering really was a pretty pointless thing. It wasn't as though all these, all these interesting things were going on. If they had actually believed in the Lord and entered into the promised land and they would have saved themselves from 40 years of walking around in circles. I do think it was probably more of this mundane, repetitive wandering around, just this waiting.
