Hannibal and the Romans in Italy
Hannibal has no interest in doing battle in gaul. He doesn't want to waste his energy fighting the romans in turrain. His strategy is very, very clear that he wants to detach the romans from their allies and defeat them in italy. Hannibal probably isn't in a position to stay anywhere very long at this stage. The more time you spent gathering, the more problems it causes. It's about half the size it was when he set out. And some of those deliberate detachments sent home. We don't know the details, but the drop in numbers is very significant.
