The Importance of Being American
Gordon's parents were of the Ise generation, which means Japanese immigrants born in Japan and came to the States. The family saw her as a genius, but at the time, Japanese immigrant women could not really show that genius because they were supposed to have the secondary place in society giving deference to the men. And Gordon's father was kind of, he was the perfect balance, it seems, to his mom. He was a man of great principle and as honest as the day was long.
