The Influence of the Microbiome on Disease
The idea behind fecal transplants is that you can replace the bad microbiota that causes sickness with the good. This will out-compete the bad, kicking them out and taking their place. The most influential studies have been those in which fecal microbiota transplants are used to treat recurrent Clostridium difficile infections. In 2011, C-diff caused 29,000 deaths in the United States alone.
