An 18-year-old high school basketball player is being treated for Achilles tendonitis. One type of strengthening exercise has been shown to be helpful in the later phases of rehabilitation. E-centric exercise maintains a constant force of contraction while isometric contraction develops force without changing the length of the musculotendinous unit. All three exercises have not been shown to benefit Achilles tendonitis as much as eccentric exercise.
