US Secretary of State Dean Rusk whispered to National Security Advisor, McGeorge Bundy: 'We are eyeball to eyeball' This memorable quote is often used when describing the dangerous second phase of the 13 days that marked the hottest period of the crisis. We'll be exploring the precipitous last days, the agreement that brought the crisis to an end and the varied responses of leaders who felt relief, regret or fury at its conclusion.
