Industrial Versus Agricultural in the Twenty-First Century

In the nineteenth century, flanders was an agricultural ireland with a language that the elite didn't respect and doesn't speak. The contrast persists into the twentieth century but is completely shifted when american capital flows into belgium in the forties and fifties. Most of the elite are now concentrated in the north because that's where economic power lies. Charle roi has never recovered from the decline of its steel industry. A quarter of the population are unemployed.
