The Paradox of Meta-Cognition

There's been some nice experiments showing that when you ask people to attend, when you ask skilled athletes to attend to what doing, that seems to hurt their performance. So there's this sense in which keeping things automatic and not thinking too much about what we're doing might hold benefits there. Now, the paradox comes because if the elite athlete has done that, then maybe they lose that external perspective that meta cognition gives you on when you might need to change your strategy or alter your model of how you are approaching something. And i think that there's this parallel there, then, with the teaching context. Because we, in a sense, do that to ourselves. If we externalize our knowledge
