The Jesuits or Society of Jesus in China was a lot more than good old-fashioned proselytizing. They served as a brilliant conduit for transmitting knowledge, information, and scholarly works both east to west and west to east. Michel Ritchie is considered the first official Western Synologist. Matteo Ritchie had developed quite a reputation amongst the Confucian literati for his incredible wisdom.
