Judge Cannon's Instincts on the President's Case
The president's lawyers have argued that it's impossible to set a trial date before the election. The government has argued that it can get a trial, all the discovery done in time for a trial in December. Judge Cannon did not take the bait in terms of explicitly focusing on Trump's status as a potential presidential candidate. She repeatedly redirected defense attorneys to just focus on factors that could justify a motion for continuance under the speedy trial act.
