The Crusades and the Near East
In the port city of Acre, you've got all these ships arriving from Western and Christendom bringing merchants and pilgrims. And so if you went down these streets, these alleyways, you'd hear all sorts of languages being spoken. It's just that incredible mix of people. And it's incredible that there's so much going on in a very, very narrow area. But I think we probably need to go back a little bit and just say, well, what was the experience of people actually living in what became known as the Crusader States? Was it any different to what you've just described?
