The History of Pilgrimage
Hindu tradition of pilgrimage is very wound up with commerce and markets so the Kormmella supposedly happens every ten years but they have it in so many different places. Mormons once in their lifetime were meant to go to the place where Joseph Smith first received enlightenment where the angel came down with the golden tablets which is in upstate New York. Machu Picchu as well that kind of inka trail the inka is built this astonishing kind of path through the mountains which almost have a transcendent quality to them simply because they've survived.
