I'll Never Remember That Scream!
The first person I saw seriously injured was a Vietnamese farmer who had stepped on an American landmine. He happened to be in a field hospital in Camp Evans where I was stationed for my base camp. Half of his body was gone yet he was still alive screaming. And then suddenly, one minute I was one person and after experiencing just that first incident, I was another person. The sense that I had this desire to want to somehow record what I was seeing around me was something that sustained me.
