A lot of these networks are highly secure, which means that unless you get the buy-in from the particular utility who's actually managing this network, they don't allow third-party devices to come on. So now it just gives the utilities as well as the consumers much more flexibility on what devices they could actually talk to the meter with. That opens up a secondary channel where you can actually talk to consumer-oriented devices versus having these devices sit on the utility network.
