Are There Any Precedents?

This is totally uncharted legal territory. There has never been a criminal indictment of a past president at least in modern times, and certainly not a former president who is also a current presidential candidate. Are there any precedents here whatsoever? I suppose there was a similar campaign finance case against John Edwards in 2012, but that's a case that the prosecutors failed to make. He was declared a not guilty.
