The Staff of Aaron

The staff of Aaron became the go-to story to talk about the conception and birth of Christ from the Virgin Mary. In a lot of medieval art, we have some of this actually earlier in in history of the church as well but in a lot ofieval art and preaching. This is an example for how for the medieval mind they're constantly reading through the Old Testament. We might not always agree with their exegesis but we can still understand them by looking at these images.
