What's Your Take on John Locke?
The founders drew on a variety of historical moments and thinkers. John Locke was most influential, but it was mostly for his epistemology stuff. Montesquieu is important because he relates to the question of teleology. Hume's political writings were extremely influential on madison an hume. The idea that populations would eventually decline in malthusianism is one reason why they're so eager to grab all new ideas.
