The Importance of Community in Buddhism

A lot of Buddhists argue that Buddhism is not a religion, mainly because it comes from a society that doesn't use that concept. But I think they just get tired of people saying: "Buddhism isn't really a religion, it's a philosophy" A lot of the time it's secular, moderns who are saying that to assuage their guilty conscience at flirting with something that they think is uncool. So you can sort of assuage your conscience by saying, well, but it's not really religion,. It's really more of a philosophy, which is sort of true, but it'm also misleading.
