The East Village
I didn't really mean the book to be an autobiography, but it felt like needed to begin it in this chapter in the East Village. There was there was this moment where these people were just in this sort of rough geographical area. It's fascinating to me how many things just sort of iterated out of that time. I've never seen drag really as about gender. And I feel that that was more the West Village idea of drag and some like it hot idea of drag versus this kind of punk super drag.
