The Unification of Germany Without the Franco-Prussian War
Would the German states have unified had it not been for the Franco-Prussian war? By 1870, the North German Confederation already brought together in very important ways most of the German states. So when Bismarck saw his opening, this is what led him to then say, okay, instead of fighting against Bavaria, as we did back in 1866, they are now going to fight on our side. If it wasn't going to happen through a war with France, he was going to find another way and recall that Bismarack ends up being chancellor of the German Empire for almost two more decades after 1870.
