Mario is such a big icon that you put him in anything and he just like swallows it whole and absorbs it and it becomes his thing it basically yeah i mean you have to look at it that way. Look at mario and rapids kingdom battle or sparks of hope that's not a mario game in any way shape or form aside from the fact that it's mario and then it's suddenly a marioGame oh yeah i don't know anything in that game that is like distinctly rapids outside of the rapids themselves but it feels like a mariogame even though it's a completely different setting.
