The Transformation of Bashar Al-Assad
I have no information suggesting or confirming that it was actually Bashar al-Assad himself who picked up the phone and ordered the use of chemical weapons. I don't, as far as I'm aware, that has never been determined. And to this day, he'll deny that his force has ever did it... But there was a precedent for this. His father, Hafiz al-Assad, had faced an uprising by the Muslim Brotherhood in 1982, which he crushed with enormous force. So they knew how to hold on to power. When they were faced with a new challenge, these were the only tools that they had in the toolbox to respond to it.
