The Trial of the Port Chicago 50
Of the 258 men, 208 agreed to return to work. They were court-martialed and found guilty of disobeying an order. The NAACP began a campaign to bring the verdict to the attention of the public. Eleanor Roosevelt brought it up to the Secretary of the Navy,. James Forestall ordered a second court- martial which came to the exact same verdict in June 1945.
