The History of Cricket
Cricket was a shorthand for so much else, and it actually stirs quite deep and an out of istic feelings at the same time. As a writing subject, it kind of had onion layers of meaning and interpretation. If you use the word 1956 with a cricket fan, they know exactly what that means. Or 1902, or 1948. Now you have to stop. You actually have to turn the cricket off in order to take cognizance of what's happening. Otherwise you would have a Simpson in the ironic punishment division, if you remember all the donuts in the world. It feels like that being a cricket fan.
