The History of Cybernetics
In the early 70s, there weren't massive, sophisticated computers. So this is very much a prototypical sort of situation. But the upshot of it is this idea of cybernetics had a certain heyday in the 50s and 60s and 70s. They could create rapid responses to this system and keep it in some sort of balance.
